PANJIM: A Mumbai-based businessman has denied allegations of grabbing property in Goa, arguing he is the original owner. Reggie Fernandes was responding to allegations made against him in a complaint to the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) that a retired Goan NRI was dispossessed of his house in Siolim by a Mumbai-based gang.
“I have all the property documents showing I am the owner of the ancestral house. The allegations that I brought goons is totally false. Why will I do all this?” he said speaking to Herald.
Fernandes, who is also on a series of projects in Goa, is willing to submit related documents to the Commission, however, he says he has not yet been asked to defend himself in the matter. He went on to allege that a third person had forged his and his sister’s signatures to sell the property to another person.
GHRC on Wednesday had directed Director General of Police Muktesh Chander to file an independent reply into the complaint by June 3.
Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues, representing Francis de Souza had submitted that the police were dragging their feet in the matter.
