They passed a resolution during a meeting at Rumdamol-Davorlim, which spoke of opposing any Central Civil Code to be applied to Muslims across the country. The gathering also resolved to call upon the State Government to make efforts to restore Muslim Personal Law in Goa.
They further demanded that they be given freedom to follow and practice as per the Muslim personal law.
Adv Zaffaryab Jilani, Addl Solicitor of Uttar Pradesh said, “It is our constitutional right to follow our own divine laws and personal laws and we will push for protecting the same”.
“We express our strong opposition to the interference in the personal laws of Muslims in particular and other communities in general. We condemn the attempts to make changes in the law and wholeheartedly support the All India Muslim Personal Law Board in their effort to stop the same,” said Shaikh Shakeel.
The meeting was organised by the Muslim community and was addressed by members of the all India Muslim Personal Law Board members. The speakers demanded that there should not be any interference in the Muslim personal law and that they were not prepared to give up their personal law.
