PONDA: PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik said her elevation to the post has not gone down well with some people. She said it was the PMC’s right to give permission to the PWD whether to allow or not to inaugurate the Kranti Maidan Work.
She said when the PWD applied for permission three years ago and presented a proposal, the PMC gave the NOC in good faith.
She said, “We felt that beautification and renovation work should be taken up, but when the PWD actually started working on renovation, we saw the detailed plan of it. We realised there would be a fountain at the entrance and several pillars at the centre. This would obstruct the public, reducing the space leading to congestion in Kranti Maidan which was an open space for public functions like Ganesh Festival, Christmas. Due to unwanted work public, the PMC in its resolution opposed it.” Further after installing pillars the Martyr Memorial is not visible from the Entrance and main road, she added.
