MARGAO: Moments after Francisco Sardinha’s son Shallom quit from the primary membership of the party, he claimed that the party leadership gave a raw deal for his father by denying him the Congress ticket.
Shallom said he is keeping all options open, including the one to contest the April 12 election, adding that he would lay bare his future political plans on Friday. “I feel I have taken the right decision in protest against the denial of the ticket to my father. We could have understood if the ticket was denied if my father was involved in corruption or for non performance. He was one of the 10 senior Congress MPs who had the privilege of presiding as Speaker of the Lok Sabha”, he said, adding “in the past, the Congress did not give my father a Ministry at the Centre and now they have denied him the ticket”.
He appeared totally unconvinced that his father was denied the ticket because of age. “Though my father was old, he was fit and fine. And certainly a person aged 45 years does not fall in the youth category”, he said, indirectly referring to the Congress decision to give the ticket to Reginaldo.
Asked for his future plans, Shallom said that he would take a decision by Friday. “I will tell the media about the
decision on Friday”, he said, while agreeing with Churchill Alemao’s demand for reconsideration of the Congress ticket to Reginaldo.
