PANJIM: Panjim Police have deployed patrolling teams around a residential colony in Dona Paula following complaints of thefts and safety issues of women. While a couple of residents have alleged that a mysterious man enters the apartments and watches women sleep and then flees, Panjim police have received an official complaint from a resident alleging crime in the flats.
“Since last three months till September 2 at night, unknown accused person/s effected entry into different flats in Dona Paula by opening the window and committed theft of cash amounting to Rs 20,000. The accused also entered into the bedrooms of different flats and watched the ladies while they were asleep,” the complainant stated.
PI Siddhant Shirodkar said they have registered an offence under Sections 457 (lurking house trespass or house breaking by night), 380 (theft) and 354 C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code. “We have deployed patrolling teams around the complex,” he added.
It is learnt that the person with just innerwear has his entire body oiled to escape any bid of being caught by the police or residents in the society. The incident, experienced by many of them, has given residents sleepless nights, however, the private security within the complex is being questioned. The police will also check if the CCTV cameras can provide any lead.
