BELGAUM, FEB 15
With the rise in milk prices by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) from Tuesday, prices of Nandini milk are set to increase in Goa.
KMF on Monday took the decision to increase the procurement and selling price of its milk products marketed under the brand name ‘Nandini’ by Rs 2 per litre.
The price rise has been already implemented in Karnataka with immediate effect, whereas KMF’s Belgaum branch which provides milk to Goa was rather cautious in implementing the rise in Goa.
KMF Belgaum sells about 48,000 litres of milk every day to Goa. The per litre prices of Nandini products in Goa are full cream (Rs 30), toned (Rs 26), standard (Rs 24) and homogenized cow milk (Rs 25).
KMF Belgaum Managing Director P D Hampihalli told Herald that company’s officials are studying prices of other suppliers to Goa.
“The decision regarding the price rise may be arrived in this regard very soon,” he ascertained.
Interestingly, KMF, which supplies quality milk to Goa, has been always cautious about its price policy in Goa.
However, since Karnataka government has directed KMF to offer higher prices to the farmers, thus per litre prices of Nandini had to be hiked by Rs 2. A high level meeting to discuss the implementation of price rise was held in Belgaum on Tuesday.
According to sources, KMF may implement the price rise of Rs 2 per litre with effect from February 20.
