Narvekar thrashes govt functioning

Strongly criticizing the functioning of the Digambar Kamat government Aldona legislator Dayanand Narvekar today said that it was time to retrospect otherwise only time will tell whether the government has done justice to the people.
Participating in the discussion on budget 2010-11, Narvekar, a former finance minister in the Kamat ministry, flayed the government functioning on several issues including agriculture, National Highway, government intervention scheme on price control, development, corruption, civil supplies, administration, extension of service for retired government employees and sports policy.
Narvekar said that the central government is kind enough to announce a fund of Rs 200 cr for 50 yrs celebration, however “I ask whether this money would be used for right purpose or will it go into the pockets of the people ruling the state.”
He further stated that there is an imbalance in the development in the various constituencies of the state.
“Development should not only be limited to the constituencies in Salcete or South Goa,” he said adding “the money has to come equally to every constituency in the state.”
“By this attitude you are dividing both the districts of the State,” he said adding “…I am sure that the Rs 200 cr received from centre will also be used haphazardly.”
Government Intervention scheme: The scheme to control price has been a total failure, he said stating “nobody has control on this scheme”.
“The government is supplying commodities to 187 panchayats in just 10 vehicles,” Narvekar pointed out questioning the government seriousness on the scheme.
“How can you cover 187 panchayats in 10 vehicles as each village gets its turn only after a month,” he stated adding that the estimates committee has pointed out various anomalies in the scheme. “I understand that the commodities under the scheme only go to the black marketing,” he said.
Administration: Narvekar said the total administration in the state is come to a standstill.
“The administration is collapsed. The government servants are disruption the governance,” he said.
Agriculture: Narvekar stated that the small farmers are dying a slow death as the have failed to provide any support to them.
“The government announced a subsidy scheme of a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the farmers who have land of 2 hectares. But my question is what will happen to small farmers whose land is less,” he asked.
He also wanted to know when the Horticulture Policy will be implemented.
“The announcement was made a year ago but still nothing has happened,” he stated adding that things are not moving into right direction.
Further Narvekar said the time is come for the government to retrospect what they have done in last three years.
“Otherwise only time will whether you have done justice to people or not,” he said.
…Asks govt to stop grants to Goa University
Aldona legislator Narvekar today demanded that the government should stop grants to the Goa University as the latter has refused to give the benefits to the students under the Sports policy.
“As per my knowledge only students upto 12 standards are getting benefits of the sports policy the Goa University has thrown out the policy in dustbin,” he stated.
“What are we doing on this? They are refusing to comply,” he said.
“The government should immediately ask the university to fall in line by stopping their grants as they are totally dependent on the government,” he said.
