PANJIM: Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has issued order allowing HL Nathurmal Mines at Harvalem to restart its mining activities with annual iron ore production of 75,000 metric tonnes (MT).
State government had last week granted its consent to Nathurmal Mines to start operations after obtaining all the requisite permissions including environmental clearance from Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF).
Speaking to Herald, lease holder Harish Melvani said the order with production limit upto 75,000 metric tons per year is issued by the department.
For obtaining EC, the lease holder will have to prepare the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
Once EC is obtained, the lease holder will have to seek consent to operate from Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB).
The mining lease is part of those 18 leases, which do not fall within the ambit of Supreme Court order dated February 7, 2018, which had quashed and set aside second renewals granted to 88 mining leases.
The mining operations in the State are shut since March, 2018.
