National symposium, debate on forensic medicine today

The national debate on the topic “The Field of Forensic Medicine Way India Look At It…” will be the key highlight of the programme

MARGAO: To commemorate 50 years of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine (IAFM), the Department of Forensic Medicine of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim and South Goa District Hospital (Hospicio), Margao in association with National Forensic Sciences University Goa campus have organised a national symposium and national debate on August 14, at Auditorium of Hospicio, South Goa District Hospital. 

As informed by D Madhu Ghodkirekar, organising in-charge, Head of Department, South Goa District Hospital Forensic Department, around 200 forensic doctor-delegates and around 100 forensic science delegates across India have registered including eminent forensic experts of the country for this symposium.

The theme of the day-long National Symposiums is “Death Deserves Dignity – The Way We Look At It…” which will be the main essence around which the entire programme will revolve around. 

Jnanpith Awardee Damodar Mauzo alias Bhai Mauzo will address the doctor on the philosophy of death and Judge Desmond D’Costa on the human rights aspect of death. Also, a talk on violence against doctors will be delivered at the symposium. 

The national debate on the topic “The Field of Forensic Medicine Way India Look At It…” will be the key highlight of the programme in which Justice Utkarsh Bakre, chairman of Goa Human Rights Commission; Jaspal Singh IPS, Director General of Goa Police; Naveen Kumar Chaudhary, director of National Forensic Sciences University Goa campus; Adv Poonam Bharne, senior Public Prosecutor; Dr Mukesh Yadav, president of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine and other senior faculties in forensic medicine will be participating.
