PERNEM: Heavy rains exposed the illegalities at Arambol beach as the locals found four to five tanks allegedly buried under the sand by the shack operators.
Locals alleged that the shack owners had buried the tanks under the sand at the beach during the tourism season and added the heavy downpour in the last few days brought to light the illegalities taking place on the beach.
Sources informed that as per guidelines, the shack owners are supposed to make temporary provision for kitchen and toilet wastewater and clean them once during the tourism season. However, instead of making the temporary provision and removing the tanks, it was found that the shack owners allegedly buried the tanks into the sand and failed to remove the same even after the tourism season, which concluded 3 months ago.
The fishing community has condemned the illegal act of the shack owners and blamed the Tourism Department for allowing such illegalities on the beach.
They have demanded that Tourism and Health Departments take strict action by revoking shack owners licence for 3 years. Releasing the toilet and kitchen wastewater into the sea is illegal, fishermen said.
