MARGAO: The Navelim diary imbroglio was finally capped on Wednesday after the Curtorim Primary Health Officer agreeing to withdraw the disconnection notices issued to the dairy on condition that the Pereira brothers abate the nuisance within a time frame. After day-long developments, wherein residents supporting the dairy owners, called on the Curtorim Primary Health Officer only to find Health Officer, Dr Rajendra Borkar conspicuous by his absence, Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado called an urgent meeting with the residents this evening to broker a solution acceptable to the health officer and the local residents.
As per the agreement, the dairy owners have given an undertaking to abate the nuisance within a time frame. The residents also spoke of installing a bio-gas unit at the dairy to tackle the nuisance as part of a long-term solution.
In view of the undertaking, the Curtorim Health Officer will withdraw the disconnection notices issued to the dairy owners on Thursday morning, which will pave way for the reconnection of power and water supply to the diary, which had faced disconnection for over a month now.
Earlier in the day, Navelim residents supporting the dairy proceeded to the Curtorim Primary Health Centre, only to find the doctors conspicuous by their absence. The dairy owners and the residents had gone to the PHC to request for reconnection of power and water supplies to the dairy.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, who called on the agitated Navelim residents, expressed his support to their cause. He said he would speak to the Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado to work out an amicable solution to the issue.
Dr Borkar, however, rubbished allegations that he had deliberately stayed away from office, saying that he was busy in the High Court on Wednesday morning.
