Navy launches cleanliness drive to prevent bird hits

VASCO: In order to reduce the bird hit menace at Dabolim airport and to spread the message of keeping the surrounding clean, the officials of INS Hansa on Saturday commenced the first Swachata Abhiyaan programme in the first week of this year. 
The programme included cleanliness drive along with a walkthon for naval personnel. Officers and men of the INS Hansa base commenced the drive early morning and collected plastic and waste material from areas adjoining the air station which included Dabolim, Rangavi estate and Bogmallo village and the beach.
“The effort was undertaken with an aim to spread awareness about the vital importance of cleanliness in the residential areas of our towns and villages. Further, clean surroundings around the air station are crucial for reducing the bird hazard to aircraft. The station regularly undertakes this effort to reaffirm the Navy’s commitment of working with the community towards strengthening the nationwide movement, many such initiatives will follow on for this year,” said a navy official from INS Hansa.
