VASCO: The Naval Flag Office of Goa Area has vehemently objected to the excavation activity presently underway outside the Naval Compound at Bogmalo.
The Flag officer said that he has written to the Government of Goa objecting to the excavation and has highlighted the security restrictions on developing a land close to the Naval air strip of Dabolim.
The Naval Flag Officer Goa Area Philipose Pnyumootil has informed that they had suddenly found this place being excavated and hence have made a letter to the Goa govt to find out how this construction started without approval.
“There was no permission taken and when we saw it we tried to ask those people there was no reply. The land is beyond the Naval jurisdiction but there are certain security restrictions and Naval laws restricting development of land close to but beyond the Naval land limits too. Secondly, it is in the approach funnel of the aircrafts which are approaching for landing,” Philipose said.
“A letter has been written to the State government recently; and so far, we are hopeful that the government will be taking action against this. Though there is no damage to the Naval property, but our worry is that there would be obstruction to free moment of flights; secondly, security issues: it will be dangerous to the aircrafts which will be landing through this part of the land,” he said.
“Aviation security is also a major concern and in fact Airport Authority will also be worried because of this excavation. It will endanger free movement of the air traffic,” said the top official.
