VASCO: The Indian Navy will decommission its Sea Harrier fighter jets on May 11, replacing them with Russian MiG 29Ks, which are all-weather, carrier-based, multirole fighter aircraft.
The decommissioning ceremony will be held at the INS Hansa base in Vasco, and Admiral R K Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff, will be the chief guest.
“With the scheduled decommissioning of INS Viraat and great difficulty in maintaining the aging Sea Harriers, the latter are scheduled to be decommissioned on May 11. The squadron will operate the advanced MiG 29K fighters,” said a press release issued by the Navy on Wednesday.
