VASCO: Senior NCP leader Praful Patel on Sunday said that the party is in talks with like-minded political parties including the Congress in forming a “grand alliance” to contest the upcoming Goa Legislative Assembly polls and that a decision in this regard would be taken soon.
“There are many people who are in touch with us. As the situation demands, we will take decision. There are other political parties talking to us. So, we will take appropriate decision at the right time. At this moment, I don’t want to give any committed answer, but NCP has been working to strengthen the party,” he said.
He further said, “We will work to contest maximum number of seats. Depending on the situation, we will try to form a larger combination. State of Goa is looking for alternative. They have seen five years of BJP-MGP rule and I am sure people want a change.”
He said that a number of smaller parties aspiring to contest the elections that the NCP would talk to them at the right time.
On the issue of alliance with Congress, he said, “I just want to say that we had fought along with Congress in past. Whether to go with them or not will be decided as the elections near. There are also other political parties who are in touch with us.”
