PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) raised questions, on Friday, over municipal ward reservations for the upcoming elections. The party claims that the delimitation of wards was done without proper study.
Several wards that were reserved for women during the last elections have been reserved for them this time too, NCP, Goa unit, President Jose Philip D’Souza said, adding, “This seems to be a sort of favoritism on the part of the government.” If the government continued with this favoritism, they would lose people’s support, he warned.
Terming the delimitation of the wards as a reflection of government’s nervousness, NCP spokesperson Trajano D’Mello, said it was unreasonable for the State to reduce the OBC category from 12 percent to 5 percent.
On the issue of dhirios (bullfights), D’Mello said there was an undeclared state of emergency in the State and that the judiciary was being disobeyed. “By allowing a four-hour-long bullfight to go ahead, the State is showing how much they care for the judiciary. The police need to investigate that despite there being a ban on the sport, bullfights continue to take place. This government has become very dangerous,” he said.
He appealed to the people that if a Supreme Court order was being violated and with the police choosing to remain quiet they should “wake up and fight the draconian government”.
