The State unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has finally decided to file a complaint before an appropriate authority into the alleged Canacona flood relief scam spelling trouble for Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president Sankalp Amonkar who is at the centre of the controversy.
NCP spokesperson Trajano D’Mello on Tuesday informed the executive committee which met today under its president Jose Philip D’Souza that the party has unanimously decided to file a complaint before the appropriate authority after collecting necessary evidence into the scam.
Sankalp found himself in the centre of a controversy over the relief money after he openly criticised a convention of the NCP held at Mapusa on September 5. He had ridiculed the NCP president after the latter stated his party wants to strengthen itself in all 40 constituencies.
What ensued subsequently was a war of words between the Congress youth wing and NCP with the latter directly accusing Sankalp of siphoning lakhs of rupees collected for Canacona flood relief. Till date the GPYC president hasn’t been able to come clear on the missing money, the NCP alleged.
Congress Vice President N Shivdas reportedly said only Rs 10 lakhs were collected by the Youth Congress, but maintained only Rs 20,000 were spent on relief work in Canacona. He, however, refused to divulge details of the bank account in which the flood relief money was deposited.  The NCP alleges the amount collected was much above the Rs 10 lakhs mark.
