PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Goa unit will be meeting Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Monday to raise their objections to the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 that had been sent to the Governor for his assent but has recently been withdrawn.
NCP Goa President Jose Philip D’Souza issued a clarion call to all the Opposition MLAs and parties to join hands in the fight against the Bhumiputra Bill given that all of them have similar objections against the Bill that was introduced by the BJP State government.
While addressing the media persons on Saturday, D’Souza criticised how the BJP MLAs passed the Bill in the Assembly at a time when the Opposition had staged a walkout.
“Normally in a football game, if the Opposition walks off the field, you stop play. You don’t consider it to be an open field and continuing scoring goals. For whom is this Bill? If it was for the public, then there should have been a discussion,” said D’Souza.
He also said, “‘Niz Goemkars’ have not benefited from the Bill but non-Goans will be the Bhumiputras in land for Goans.
He questioned if this will pave the way for those who have been illegally staying on a Comunidade or government land to get away scot free with the land being transferred to them.
Stating that the Bill is filled with such ‘wrong decisions’, D’Souza said there are many Goans who have legitimate problems, be it mundkar rights or issues with getting their own structures on their own lands regularised but that the government was more concerned about the ‘Bhumiputras’ than the deserving Goans.
