PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party has hit out at the government accusing it of “sucking the blood of the common man”.
Referring to the allegations that patients at Goa Medical College are being forced to do pathology test at private laboratories, which charge exorbitant fees. In many cases, it said, tests were recommended when not required. The party has demanded the resignation of the state Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar. “This is a clear case of sucking the blood of the common man,” NCP spokesperson alleged. The NCP has also learnt
that drugs/reagents and equipment are purchased without following procedures like tendering etc,” he added. “NCP demands that he should be sacked immediately and CBI inquiry instituted to probe the entire racket, right from purchase of drugs to pathological test
to post-graduate admission to GMC and GDC,” he said.
The presence of representatives of private laboratories in the Goa Medical College and Hospital had set off allegations of scams and that tests were unnecessarily being recommended in order to benefit the private laboratories.
