PANJIM, SEPT 9
The bad phase still hovers over the Goa police, as information sought by social activist Aires Rodrigues under Right to Information (RTI) reveals that nearly half of the police officials have so far faced disciplinary action.
This includes officers holding the rank of sub-inspector to Superintendent of Police. Of the total 233 officers presently in service with Goa police, 108 have not faced any disciplinary action.
The information released to Advocate Rodrigues further reveals that of 14 SPs, eight have faced action which does not include SSP V V Chowdhary, SPs Veenu Bansal, Atmaram Deshpande, Shekhar Prabhudesai, Vishram Borkar and Melwyn Fernandes.
Similarly, 22 out of 24 Deputy Superintendents of Police had to face disciplinary action except DySPs Rina Torcato and Nilu Raut Desai. Besides, 43 of the total 53 inspectors and 52 of the total 142 sub inspectors have faced similar action.
The information to Rodrigues further reveals that out of 233 officers, 20 are women officials, of which eight have faced disciplinary action. Interestingly, nearly all Crime Branch officers including SP Mangaldas Desai have had to face disciplinary action during their service with Goa police.
Crime Branch is already under tremendous pressure of probing cases resulting in more acquittals even as it is carrying out a slack investigation in the much touted police-drug mafia nexus probe.
