I am strongly convinced that the opportunity provided by Herald to the Citizens of Goa to voice their concerns regarding the inadequate infrastructure, poor safety and security arrangements, lack of will to curb traffic violations, illegal activities such drugs and prostitution and ineffective ways of handling garbage and pollution, will awaken the authorities and hopefully provide more effective and efficient governance.
In this regard I want to raise an issue that affects the citizens of Fatorda. Just before the Lusofonia Games the Government had widened and hot mixed the Ambaji Road linking N H 17 near the new collectorate building to the main road at the North-East side of PJN Stadium at Fatorda. As result of widening of the road, it has become very convenient to the drivers of two-wheelers and four wheelers to zoom along the road without any concern to the pedestrians also using the road.
Just within a span of about 200 metre on this road there are institutions like a hospital, bank, church, high school and the main gate of the stadium. The speeding vehicles pose serious danger to the lives of pedestrians and school children. Hence there is a pressing need for providing speed breakers and zebra crossings at the appropriate locations.
Also both the sides of the road near these public institutions, cars, bikes and scooters are being haphazardly parked due to want of proper demarcation of parking spaces and slots along the sides of the road.
In view of this the concerned authorities need to act urgently by taking necessary measures to prevent any serious incident taking place which could lead to loss of life and property.
