Need for study on mobile towers: Alina

PANJIM: Considering that there are mixed public reactions to the installation of mobile towers in villages, Environment Minister Alina Saldanha on Thursday proposed a scientific study to ascertain the impact of mobile towers on the health of people located in the vicinity.

“Mobile towers do impact health though there are no scientific studies on the issue,” Saldanha told the Assembly, and proposed to carry out such a study through the Goa State Pollution Control Board.
“While in many places there is opposition to mobile towers, there are instances where people approach MLA for installation of such towers as part of development,” she added.
The Minister was speaking while responding to the Calling Attention motion moved by BJP MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, who sought action against two mobile towers which are being erected at Zuariwada, Goa Velha. He pointed out that the people are strongly opposing it and that the mobile towers have flouted all rules and regulations.
Assuring the re-inspection of both the towers at Zuariwada by GSPCB, Saldanha informed the House that the Board has already issued show-cause notices to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, which is erecting
the tower.
