MAPUSA: Nerul villagers residing at the river side of Coco beach seek Goverment attention towards damaged rubber stone protection wall and request to erect a concrete wall on priority.
The landfall of cyclone Tauktae Cyclone has damaged the existing rubber wall at Coco beach inciting fear amongst the people residing on the riverside. Residents said that the age-old rubber wall was anyways in a bad condition due to constant soil erosion and it couldn’t resist the cyclone last month and now the rundown has turned people residing close by vulnerable.

Residents said that a team of WRD had visited the spot and assured to put five trucks of rubber stones however villagers claimed that five trucks would not be enough since the affected river stretch is almost 600 to 700 meters.
Bonny Pereira among the residents said, “WRD officials assured to put five trucks of rubber stones as a temporary measure but it is not enough since it’s a long stretch. The only solution to this issue is having concrete protection wall because the situation we went through during cyclone we can only say that God saved us. We request Goverment to take up the work of having concrete protection wall on priority because almost 8 houses are directly affected.”
There are around eight houses located right at the riverside that were directly affected during the cyclone. They fear that if the government does not take up work of having concrete wall then it is going to affect more than 30 people.
