MERCES, APRIL 4
Acting on the complaint of Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) over gross injustice to polio-stricken Bhima Naik of Neura, the Additional Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has sent a notice to the Neura Sarpanch, to file his say in the matter. The matter has been fixed on May 20 at 3 pm in the court of the Additional Commissioner.
It may be recalled that DRAG had complained to the Disability Commissioner, after Herald had highlighted the plight of polio-stricken Bhima Naik and his family.
Meanwhile, Bhima Naik is facing several hurdles to repair the dilapidated roof of his house, since there is no access to bring in the materials and also neighbours are not allowing entry through their properties.
Bhima had planned to repair the roof before the onset of monsoon, with the money that was collected from generous donors, and had already removed tiles from some parts of the roof.
Bhima informed Herald that labourers are also not willing to undertake the repairs, either due to threat perception from neighbours or due to the absence of any access to their house.
Now, faced with a piquant situation, Bhima hopes for intervention of concerned authorities to alleviate his sufferings and the notice to the Neura Sarpanch from the Additional Commissioner for persons with disabilities has come as a ray of hope.
