PANJIM: Taking cognisance of totally ignoring its order to repair the bunds and locking of sluice gates, Tiswadi Mamlatdar dissolved the managing committee of Neura Tenant association and appointed Talathi of Carambolim village as the manager to function on her behalf.
Khazan Action Committee (KAC) that has been consistently pursuing the matter has said that this was a major blow to the fishing mafia who were operating despite ban on sluice gate auctions and clear instructions given to them to lock the sluice gates.
“As a result of this illegal activities undergoing with tacit support of committee members the entire Neura Khazan belt has totally inundated with saline water thereby destroying the vegetation and also making it impossible to cultivate paddy in the ensuing season”, KAC convenor Ramarao Wagh said.
The water has even engulfed the building of Dayanand School and Neura Gram panchayat leading to health and safety issues. It has been also brought to the notice of the Mamlatdar that illegal fishing is still continued in the sluice gate despite ban on the same.
Mamlatdar had conducted personal inspections with the help of Police personnel in the area as well as KAC volunteers have provided the proof of illegal fishing. KAC has demanded strict action on association and sluice gate contractors.
According to KAC convenor, Ramrao Wagh, the tenant association has to now urgently take up the repairs of the bunds on priority basis and to drain the saline water.
