PANJIM: While rent-a-car operators’ await regularisation, another self-driven car rental service has plunged into the business with the North Goa Rent-a-Car Association accusing it of operating allegedly without permission from the State authorities.
Having its head-office in Bangalore, the company with cars sporting Maharashtra registration number plates launched their service, charging client Rs 70-80 per hour.
“The operators do not have permission from Goa government or Transport Department to operate in the State, despite which they are freely renting out MH-registered cabs to the people. The agency also has no office in Goa,” Rent-a-Car Association Vice President Nitesh Chodankar said.
The association members, on Wednesday evening caught two persons from Saligao Church and handed them over to the local police for the alleged offence. “It has come to our notice that this company has commenced its illegal cab facilities without taking necessary approvals from the State government, Kindly take necessary action to stop the illegalities and future untoward incidents,” states a complaint to Calangute police.
Police said they are conducting an inquiry into the complaint before taking further steps. Meanwhile, the company has advertised its service in Goa. No Transport officials were available to either comment or confirm the development till Thursday evening.
