PANJIM: Nine COVID-19 patients succumbed to the virus while the State reported 344 new cases in the last 24 hours. In what could be a slight relief, the single day COVID-19 count showed a decline for the second day in a row. So also the recovery count was above 500 for second consecutive day as 588 people were declared cured on Monday.
With this the active cases recorded are at 4,501. The total confirmed cases are 21,173 from a total 2,13,103 test reports received, whereas recoveries are at 16,427 and 245 persons have lost their lives so far, as per the health bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Services. The bulletin further states that 157 suspects are under hospital isolation while 32 people have been quarantined at various residencies and hotels.
As per the department, 642 beds are vacant in COVID-19 Care Centres across Goa. Of the 545 beds in North Goa, 205 are vacant while from the 1006 beds in South Goa, 437 are vacant.
The Health Department has also decided to create a 50-bed ward at Mapusa District Hospital for COVID-19 patients.
Five of deceased are in the 55-years-and-below age group. They are a 55-year-old lady from Navelim, a 54-year-old man from Khandola, a 52-year-old man from Betki, a 49-year-old man from Ponda and a 46-year-old man from Assagao. The others are an 83-year-old man from Siridao, a 68-year-old man from Chimbel, a 66-year-old man from Merces and an 83-year-old man from Mapusa. One of the nine deceased died within an hour of admission to the Hospital.
