New constructions, garbage among other issues discussed at Betalbatim

MARGAO: New constructions, garbage management, erection of a mobile tower, income from hotels and guest houses were some of the issues that were debated at the Betalbatim gram sabha.

Former Minister Francisco Mickky Pacheco demanded that the Betalbatim panchayat carry out another survey to reconfirm how many hotels and guest houses are operating in the village and how many rooms each of these establishments have.

Pacheco demanded that the panchayat verify the cost of each of these rooms and the establishments asked to pay taxes accordingly so that the revenue could be spent on village development.

Pacheco also called for an inspection of a mobile tower in the village.

Other gram sabha members also placed demands regarding repairing the bus stand in the village and setting up a stage in the community. The sarpanch gave details on how these issues are being handled while Pacheco offered to provide his assistance in following on these two issues.

There were certain questions raised on the budget of the panchayat and how the funds had been allocated.

There was also a discussion on constructions coming up in the village and the garbage and sanitation management of the same. The Sarpanch stated that they have looked into this matter and also updated the gram sabha about High Court directions regarding waste management.
