PORVORIM: Visits to recreation facilities elsewhere in the State could be a thing of the past for the 6000-odd residents of Pilerne, with work on the new sports-cum-panchayat complex expected to start shortly.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar along with GSIDC officials will visit Pilerne on July 15 to inspect the project site for the new sports-cum-panchayat complex.
Consider the facilities in store for its residents: a football ground, an indoor games complex, a cricket pitch, a volleyball court, children’s play area, a jogger’s track and a shopping complex.
Despite being a prominent village in Bardez taluka which is home to one of the largest industrial estates in the State, the village has lacked a proper market complex, a sports complex and other recreation facilities.
The panchayat decided to build new Panchayat complex on about 23,000 sq mtrs of land in the vicinity of the excising panchayat office. The foundation stone for the project was laid on May 9, 2013, by Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of Tourism Minister and Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar. Tadwadkar had assured in his speech that the project would be completed within two years. The govt completed the process of land acquisition to construct the new Panchayat Ghar cum playground.
Stating the Pilerne Panchayat complex would be constructed by GSIDC, Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Rupesh Naik informed Herald that the land acquisition process took a longer time than expected.
“Now, the land has been acquired and the Pilerne Panchayat sent the proposal for a playground-cum-panchayat complex to the GSIDC on April 29.”
“Once the project is completed, it will not only provide the much-needed facilities to the residents, it will also increase the revenue of the panchayat,” said Naik.
Although all land acquisition process has been completed, the GSIDC has not commenced work on the panchayat playground.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told Herald that the issue of a sports-cum-panchayat complex had been discussed with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at a meeting on July 9.
“Parrikar along with GSIDC officials will visit the project site on July 15 and has assured that the project will be undertaken by GSIDC shortly. Once the project is completed, the existing panchayat office building will be demolished.”
