CANACONA: A 40-year-old resident of Muthal-Sadolxem committed suicide by hanging to a tree in the forests of Govaliwadda late Tuesday evening.

According to Canacona Police, Remy Fernandes was found hanging to a tree, some two kms away from his residence at Sadolxem.

According to sources, Fernandes was last seen late Tuesday afternoon and shortly later a woman who was proceeding through the hillock at Govaliwada via power sub-station, saw the body dangling to a tree branch.

It is learnt that the family was preparing for the marriage of younger son in the next few days and Fernandes had returned after a shopping spree at Margao by Tuesday afternoon.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Hospicio in Margao for post-mortem.

VASCO: Burglars targeted two flats at Vaddem-Vasco and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 3.56 lakh on New Year’s Day.

According to Vasco Police, Gregorio Fernandes, residing at Flat 227, Sushila Sea View Building Vaddem, complained that between 10.15 am and 12.30 pm, burglars entered the flat by breaking the lock of the main door and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 3.56 lakh. Fernandes had gone out of the flat when the incident took place.

Police further informed that the burglars also broke open another neighbouring flat belonging to one Joanes, who is working abroad, and stole a digital camera. Vasco Police have registered an offence against some unknown culprits and PSI John Fernandes is investigating the case.

VALPOI: An unidentified male body was found lying in Sada Surla jungle in Valpoi on Monday.

According to Valpoi Police, the body has been preserved in GMC morgue in Bambolim and police is investigating the case.

Theft at Carmona

MARGAO: Escolastica Gracias, resident of church ward, Carmona filed a complaint with the police that some unknown person committed theft of decorative lights on December 31 which were used to decorate the balcony of her house. Escolastica registered a complaint with the Colva police on the incident.

Colva police are investigating in the case. 

Copper strip rolls stolen at Dabolim

VASCO: Copper strips rolls worth about Rs 6 lakh were stolen from the stores at AAI, new site Goa Airport complex Dabolim. According to Vasco Police, Yogesh Kumar Sharma, site engineer, Dabolim, complained that some persons entered the stores by breaking open the front door and stole nine copper strips rolls worth about Rs 6 lakh. PSI John Fernandes is investigating. 

Mishap at Curtorim

MARGAO:  On January 1, early morning an accident occurred near Seby Bar at Maina, Curtorim, involving a car, riders of scooter and cycle suffered injuries. According to complaint filed by PSI Rohidas K Velip of Maina Curtorim police the Indica V2 Xeta car, GA-08-E-2504 driven by Sidney Pereira, Margao on January 1 at around 6.30 am was proceeding from Maina to Margao when on reaching near Seby bar, Maina, Pereira went in the wrong direction and dashed against a cement culvert later knocking down Joao Jerome Rebello, 61, resident of Maina and a Eterno scooter  driven by Gangadhar Tikamdas Kubhand, 52, Fatorda. An offence of rash and negligent driving has been registered against Pereira.

Cash, gold stolen at Mandrem

PERNEM: Cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs 1.50 lakh were stolen from a house at Dandos Wada, Mandrem.

According to Pernem Police, Manoranjan Prasad Singh (32) complained that between 7.30 pm on December 30 and 11 am on December 31, some persons entered his house by breaking the latch of the main door and committed theft of gold ornaments and cash, all worth about Rs 1.50 lakh. PSI Yogesh Pednekar is investigating the case.

Dio stolen at Baga

CALANGUTE: A Dio scooter was reported stolen from near a bar and restaurant at Baga. According to Calangute Police, Baburao Naik of Junas Waddo, Mandrem, complained that some persons stole his scooter (GA-03-k-4294). Head Constable Suryakant Shetye is investigating the case.
