PANJIM: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday announced that the first lane of the new cable-stayed Zuari Bridge is planned to open in April 2022.
In his message on the eve of 60th Goa Liberation Day, Pillai also said the Greenfield International Airport at Mopa is expected to be completed by December, next year.
Pillai said, “Eight-lane Zuari Bridge estimated at the cost of Rs 2,500 crore, is under completion. “The first lane is planned to be opened in April, 2022,” the Governor said.
In November, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had announced that one four-lane section of the bridge will be thrown open for public on December 19. However, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said due to technical reasons, the same might be delayed.
As reported earlier, the delay in getting visa for Chinese consultants to India has hampered opening of the one four-lane. Chinese consultants are required to oversee the assembly of cable-stayed section of the bridge.
The work of the 640 metres bridge, which would be the second longest cable-stayed bridge in the country, had commenced in 2016.
Further, the Governor, in his message, also informed that the work of construction of the new International Airport at Mopa at a cost of Rs 2,600 crore is progressing at a rapid pace and it is expected to be completed by December, 2022.
