PANJIM: A newborn wrapped in a cloth was found abandoned in the dirt, near a pharmacy, located in the Panjim market.
A woman employee of the Pharmacy, who spotted the baby called the police, which immediately dispatched personnel to the spot and took the baby.
The baby, a 20-day old boy, was born at Goa medical college, it was learnt. “We took the baby to the GMC for treatment and he is doing well. On searching the records, we discovered that he was born there,” said an officer.
The police identified the boy’s mother but she apparently refused to accept him after which the police handed the toddler to a charity home with the help of an NGO.
Earlier this month, the police had discovered body of a week-old baby girl below the new Patto Bridge.
However, in this case,
the mother is yet to be identified.
The post-mortem had revealed that the newborn had suffered cardiac arrest before she was thrown
in the waters by unknown person.
