“Earlier, people had to travel nearly 23 kms to go to Barcem from Khola via Betul, Balli and Fatorpa, but now they will have to travel only 3 kms, which is the shortest distances to travel from Khola to Barcem and vice versa,” said Kavlekar after inaugurating the new road which was constructed by spending about Rs 3.50 crore.
He said the Khola village earlier was part of Canacona constituency and during the delimitation of constituency at the last assembly election, it became a part of Quepem constituency. “It was my dream and I promised the people of both the villages to connect both the villages by shortest road to ease the hardship.”
He said the tender will be out soon to construct another shortest road of 3 kms as promised during the last assembly election connecting Popoyadando in Khola to Khedem in Barcem by spending about Rs 2.50 crore. “People from these two villages now have to travel about 18 kms, but once the new road is done, they will have to travel only 3 kms,” he added.
Khola Sarpanch Anjeli Velip, Deputy Sarpanch Vanita Naik, ZP member Krishna Velip, ex-sarpanch Babu Prabhudessai, Anant Velip, local panch members, PWD AE Pednekar, JE Verenkar, road contractor Deepak Dessai besides villagers were present on the occasion.
