Navelim local dies in accident
MARGAO: A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle at Davorlim, while a student was injured in another accident at Raia.
The fatal accident occurred near Happy Soda factory, Davorlim-Navelim. Margao town police stated that the deceased Antonio Pereira, residing near Blasco hall, Navelim, was a victim of a hit-and-run accident. The panchanama was conducted by the police who have registered a case under Sections 279, 304 (A) IPC and Section 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Police are still on the look out for the accused person and are investigating all leads.
Suicide at Borim
PONDA: One person was feared drowned when he committed suicide by jumping off the Borim bridge on Sunday evening. Ponda police and Fire personnel rushed to the site and conducted a search operation but could not trace the body till late evening. On Saturday too a youth from Pisgal Curti attempted suicide by jumping off the bridge; however a passerby who happened to be his relative noticed him drowning in the river and rescued him.
New school bldg inaugurated
MARGAO: The new premise of the Perpetual Succorr Convent Pre-Primary School at Navelim was inaugurated on Saturday by Fisheries and Labour Minister Avertano Furtado. GPCP Luizinho Faleiro was also present. The school building and 8 toilet blocks have been constructed at a total cost of Rs 48 lakh by the government and the Rural Development Authority. The school was longing for new premises and better facilities for decades. Furtado thanked the chief minister for fulfilling the need of the school. Faleiro said that the school was in urgent need for better infrastructure and the new building will now bring relief to all the students.
Retreats at Pilar

Mapusa club turns two
panjim: New Leaf Club Mapusa celebrated its 2nd anniversary in the school hall of El Shaddai Charitable Trust, Assagao, with more than 200 students. The chief guest was Xavier Saldhana, resort manager of Palmarinha Resort. Club Secretary Venkatesh Mahale welcomed, while the chief guest, club president and school teacher lit the lamp. Club Vice-President Mininath Gawas, Secreatary Venkatesh Mahale and Shaunak Kauthankar presented a comedy skit with a messaged, ‘English why Mai Bhas Jai.’ Different games were conducted for the children followed by cake cutting ceremony and refreshments.
Cuncolim school’s cabinet elected
PANJIM: Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim, recently held the oath taking ceremony for the student cabinet in the church after the mass. Fr Manuel Fernandes, Manager of the school and the Headmaster, John Furtado, inducted the newly-elected members with sashes and badges. Royce Rego was elected as Headboy and Vilber Rego as Asst Headboy. Other member of the cabinet are Jonathan, Discipline Minister, Ashwin as Sports Minister, Revlon as Cultural Minister and Gavin as Education Minister.
Workshop for teachers held
PANJIM: Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim held a special one-day workshop on basic skills in counselling for the teachers working in the school. Bro John Melvinio Afonso was the resource person. Senior teacher Anthony welcomed, while the headmaster of the school John Furtado coordinated. Cynthia Cardozo proposed the vote of thanks. The manager of the school was also present.
