VASCO: Goa First, an NGO, has served an ultimatum on the Health Department and Government of Goa to start Chicalim Cottage Hospital immediately in the newly constructed hospital.
The NGO has warned of protest if the hospital is not inaugurated by October 2.
The issue of the Chicalim cottage hospital has been highlighted by the Herald and other media earlier. Goa First has now handed over a memorandum to the Health Secretary, Health Minister, Director of Health services and also Mormugao Deputy Collector highlighting the plight of the patients at the old premises and the need to operationalise the new building.
“We have written to several departments and the minister concerned, but haven’t received any response except from the Deputy Collector’s Office” Parshuram Sonurlekar of Goa First said.
“The sad part is that the entire population from Mormugao taluka is totally dependent on the Chicalim Cottage Hospital as there is no other free medical facility available for the middle class, lower class and daily wage workers. During emergency or during epidemics, people rush to this facility,” Sonurlekar said.
The newly constructed hospital building has the capacity to take all the load of patients.
