NHAI has okayed flyover,says Mauvin

A day before the visit of Union Surface Transport Minister, Kamal Nath to Goa, Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho has asserted that Goa certainly needs the highway, but cannot come over the houses of local people.
In fact, Godinho has demanded a fly over between Zuari Bridge to the Toyota fuel pump which would cost the National Highway Authority of Goa (NHAI) a whopping Rs 90-100 crore.
That’s not all. The deputy Speaker said that Goa being a small state with limit land resources, the NHAI should build the highway by constructing elevated roads wherever required.
“The MLAs have taken the stand that highway cannot come over the houses of the people. The Chief Minister and PWD Minister have been vociferously pursuing the matter with the Union Surface Transport Minister. We will be able to save the house”, he said.
Hoping that the views expressed by the MLAs would be translated into action, Godinho hoped that Goans are not taken for a ride by the Centre. “The CM will pursue the matter with the Union Surface Transport Minister during his visit to Goa on Tuesday”, he added.
Expressing satisfaction that his suggestion for a fly over between the Zuari Bridge, Cortalim and the Toyota fuel pump on the Verna plateau has been accepted by the NHAI, Godinho said the people of Goa will not allow houses to go to make way for the highway.
