Nilkanth rules out projects under PPP

PANJIM, FEB 20
Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar has ruled out taking any project by the Tourism department under the Public Private Partnership mode.
Halarnkar was reacting to the protests by the Calangute block BJP against the department plans for an eco-friendly hotel in Calangute-Baga.
“I agree the proposal is forwarded to the government by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation three months ago, however, we have not taken any decision on that,” Halarnkar told Herald.
The Calangute block BJP president Michael Lobo had said that they will oppose the project tooth and nail.
He said the 52,000 sq mtr government land in question is a prime land in Baga worth Rs 100 crore and to boost tourism, the tourism department should utilise it for developing the much-needed infrastructure like amusement park, good aquarium, adventure sports, Sulabh souchalayas and bathing rooms.
