PANJIM: Goa will launch C2S (Chips to Start-up) flagship programme through NIT and IIT institutes soon, according to IT Minister Rohan Khaunte.
Speaking during the distribution of laptops to meritorious SSC students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC) communities, Khaunte said that the Union government has conveyed its sanction to the State government to start this programme for five years.

“In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans to transform India into the next semiconductor hub, the Ministry of Electronics and Information has sought applications from 100 academia, R&D organisations, Start-ups and MSMEs under C2S. From Goa, NIT and IIT has applied for it and have been accorded sanction,” said Khaunte.
This C2S aims to train 85,000 high-quality and qualified engineers in the area of Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) and Embedded System Design as well as result in development of 175 ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits), Working Prototypes of 20 System on Chips and IP Core repository over a period of five years. This will be a step towards leapfrogging in the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) space by way of inculcating the culture of SoC/System Level Design at Bachelors, Masters and Research level and act as a catalyst for growth of Start-ups involved in fabless design.
Khaunte said, recently during his Delhi visit he had a detailed discussion with Union Minister for IT Ashwini Vaishnav on above programme and very next day sanction was granted. He said now the whole world is technology driven and we need to come into that domain, else there will be a technology gap created and we will be in dark. Therefore, he appealed to students to make best use of resources available.
