On January 13, 2016 a postcard received at Secretariat with a threat to kill Modi and Parrikar on the ban on cow slaughter was immediately forwarded to Porvorim police.
Photo copies of the letter were circulated to all police stations and the Anti Terrorist Squad headed by Priyanka Kashyap (IPS) had taken up the investigation.
“The inputs were received from various police stations but investigations could not arrive at any conclusion,” a senior official said.
Police during investigation had announced that they will record the statement of two government officials who had initially seen the letter but the statements were never recorded. A formal request was sent to the Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa region to access CCTV footage of the post box in Panjim where the postcard was posted.
The Postal department informed police there is no CCTV fitted near the post boxes. “We have not received the CCTV video footage from the post office,” a police inspector told Herald.
Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg had said the letter was a prank a little before ATS arrested Sameer Sardana suspecting him to be terrorist.
While Sardana’s case attained prominence, police pushed the investigations on the postcard to the backburner. Though police investigations confirmed the letter to be a prank, they have failed nab the prankster.
