PANJIM: Bombay High Court at Goa on Friday declined to stay the demolition of Goa BJP Vice President Anil Hoble’s illegal structures including restaurant along the Ribandar- Panjim causeway. The court, however, adjourned the matter for hearing to June 16.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on May 29 had ordered demolition of several structures, which include Hoble Bar & Restaurant for violating provisions of the environmental law. NGT also imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on Hoble for damage done to the environment.
The court has also allowed the intervention application filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues who drew Justice F M Reis’ attention that under Section 22 of the NGT Act an appeal against an order of the NGT would only lie before the Supreme Court and not the High Court.
Hoble’s lawyer informed court that he could not afford to go to the Superme Court. Rodrigues has told court that Hoble being a part of political party misused his political power with impunity in usurping community land by filling the fields and destroying mangroves around the Ribandar – Merces area.
