VASCO: The meeting of the Dabolim airport advisory committee, under the chairmanship of south Goa Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar, was unable to resolve most of the issues discussed.
This was the second meeting since the committee was formed. “We are taking meetings but there is no result emerging from these meetings, that’s what disappoints me,” said Dabolim legislator Mauvin Godinho.
“Issues that were taken up on Friday were related to the Defence Ministry. Therefore, we have decided to call for a joint meeting by inviting Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar so that the issues can be discussed and brought to a logical conclusion. The meeting will possibly be called next month,” said Sawaikar
Issues such as land acquisition for expanding facilities at Dabolim airport (parking/taxi stand), cannot be resolved unless the Defence Ministry (navy) releases land to Airports Authority of Inida (AAI).
Airport Director K Srinivasa Rao said there are three issues obstructing smooth operation at Dabolim airport. “The issue of time flight operation restriction needs to be attended on priority, secondly we need facilities for remote parking bays and car parking facilities as the present multipurpose parking faces security issues and cannot be used until the same is cleared,” he said.
