No Home Minister, no security at home – 7 rapes

Since March there have been around 7 to 9 rapes reported in the State; CM Parrikar who is the Home Minister has been away during this period

PANJIM: Amidst the ongoing debate that the absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has largely affected the functioning of the government, questions are now being raised about the increase of crime in the State with around 7-9 cases of rapes reported from March to May 31, 2018.
While the Betalbatim gang rape rocked the State, safety of women has become a centre of debate.
Just last month a young Goan couple was attacked by a group of men from Indore. One of the accused turned out to be a criminal having a string of cases against him in his hometown.
Police were quick to arrest Sanjeev Pal, Ram Bhariya and mastermind Ishwar Makhwana for raping the girl, assaulting her male friend and filming the entire act. They had also threatened to make the incident viral.
Atrocities against women were also reported in April when a Karnataka youth was arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl, making her pregnant. Nurjul Islam Abdul Munaf (22), a native of Bagalkot, Karnataka, was arrested after a complaint by the girl’s mother.
In another incident, in the same month, some security guards were also booked for raping a 6-year-old girl in Canacona. The child was raped for over four months by accused Manoj Kumar, Jaidip Ree and Ravi Ree, all of whom originally hail from Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
While these incidents have also triggered anger as non-Goans are fearlessly resorting to crime, many demand answers considering Parrikar, also Home Minister should be taking strict action.
