BICHOLIM: Satisfied over assurances by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to resolve the custodian issue, the Mayem Nagrik Bhuvimochan Samiti (MNBS) has decided to suspend all agitations till March 2014.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Samiti President Kashinath Mayekar in the presence of other office bearers after they had a meeting with Parrikar.
“The Chief Minister has assured to solve the issue by enacting a legislation and he told us that he needs to allocate funds for the same. During the next assembly session, special budgetary provision will be made and with the help of a law, the issue will be resolved,” said Mayekar.
It may be recalled that the Samiti had organised a protest at Panjim till December 19 and Parrikar had announced on Liberation Day that a special law would be introduced for Mayem in the next session to solve the issue.
Though the protestors stopped their campaign in Panjim, they continued their protest at Bicholim and called the same off only when Chief Minister Parrikar met a delegation from Mayem village.
Deputy Speaker and Mayem MLA Anant Shet had also offered to resign from his post if the problem was not solved after the next session.
