The villagers from Vazri in Sanquelim municipal area have stated that they have been always ignored and their area has remained underdeveloped even to the extent that there is no bus service or a school in the area.
It may be stated that Vazri in Sanquelim is about four kilometres from the city and is under-developed since many years. As per the locals, only during elections they see the elected representatives and later they disappear for the next five years.
There are about 30 to 40 families in the area and almost everyone has the same difficulties. The residents blame the government for totally neglecting them.
“There has been hardly any development in the village and all the governments have only neglected this village. It was only because of the first CM, Bhausaheb Bandodkar that a school was opened in the village which today has been closed down,” a retired teacher, Delip Kundaikar from Vazri said.
“The bus service which was started to this village has been stopped; there are very narrow roads, there is no primary school in the village and all the children have to go to Sanquelim,” Kundaikar said. “The lone primary school was closed down sighting less strength and later no one bothered to open this school in the village,” he added.
The villagers feel that neither the municipal representatives nor the government is bothered about their demands. Earlier the village was a part of Virdi panchayat but later it was included into Sanquelim municipality and the locals were assured that with the funds their village would be developed but this never happened.
D Tari from Vazri also feels that there are many problems in the village. “We feel that there should be widening of the roads, a primary school and there street lights in the area” Tari told.
SMC councillor Dayanand Boryekar, who represented the ward, accepted that there is less development in Vazri and it was because of NOC issues and also because of less families in the area. “In other areas we have done development but in Vazri there were some NOC issues related to road widening,” said Boryekar.
