Not interested in excuses: GPCC president

PANJIM: The State Unit of Congress Monday warned that it would refuse tickets to those party leaders who had distanced themselves from the Lok Sabha campaign. The party has also been wrecked by outright rebellion and dissent with some leaders leaving the fold and others not working for the official candidates.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes said the party will not take into consideration any excuses in this regard later.
“We are not interested in excuses that they were unwell or any other reason… They will not get tickets. The party will go on the merits… I will be the one to decide who will get the ticket based on their dedication and work for the party,” he told a press briefing in the Congress head office on Monday.
Though it has got some welcome relief with the indirect advantage with utterances from the Church, the party leaders themselves have till date proved to be their own worst enemies and the South Goa campaign is being spearheaded by independent candidate Vijai Sardessai, a former congressman.
Fernandes went on to say these leaders will be “used to stick posters on the walls” though no immediate action can be taken as they have not indulged in anti-party activities. “They will be used to put posters on the walls. We can take action against those involved in anti-party work and against those who are not working for the party being in the party fold, we will take action at the appropriate time…” he cautioned.
The comments came after media persons pointed out that some Congressmen like Joaquim Alemao have shirked from their responsibilities this Lok Sabha elections.
