No traditional Ganesh idol immersion procession at Adpoi this year

PONDA: The Adpoi village in Ponda is famous for its traditional Ganesh idol immersion procession every year. Held on the fifth day, the celebrations which are organized jointly by the seventeen families of the village see thousands throng Adpoi to see the float parade. 

This year , they will celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi for five days but on a smaller scale with social distancing. This was decided in the meeting convened by the Dhajan Committee of the Adpoi families.

Each family, which has about 100-150 members, makes floats based on mytholigicla concepts,  with Ganesh idols kept at the centre of the procession before immersion in the Zuari River. Devotees dance to the tunes of drums and chanting slogans Ganpati Bappa Morya, Jay Vithal Jay Vithal, etc.

North Goa MP and Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik is also amongst one of these families.
