PANJIM: The Superintendent of Police, Traffic Panjim, has said that no traffic blockade was reported at Agassaim during the movement of Defence Minister or Chief Minister of Goa on Saturday late afternoon. The SP further maintained that no special route arrangements or staff deployment was made during their movement.
Reacting to Herald’s report in its Sunday edition ‘VIP Culture creeps in Goa with Defence Ministry Convoy?’ the SP said that the motorcade of the Defence Minister and Chief Minister was made to pass through the normal traffic. “Regular traffic was not stopped either by Traffic Police or Police Station staff as the vehicular traffic was moving smoothly.
However, one accident had occurred at around 10-10.15 am on 05/11/2016 involving 03 vehicles i.e. Maruti Wagon R Car GA-06-T-4243, Mini Bus GA-08-U-8857 and Swaraj Mazda Tempo GA-06-T-0424 wherein, the vehicles were immediately marked by traffic staff and removed from the spot within 4-5 minutes near Maruti Temple Cortalim side (Cortalim to Panaji lane),” the statement mentioned.
The SP mentioned that at this time traffic movement was slowed down for about half an hour or so. However, the vehicular movement was continuous on both sides. She further mentioned that no vehicular traffic was blocked, stopped or blocked by police from Panjim to Curchorem on 05/11/2016 during the movement of the Chief Minister and Defence Minister
Regarding disruption the disruption of exams, the statement detailed as follows, “It was found that there was one Semester exam of Mass Communication in the morning session for the student of St. Xavier College, Mapusa and as per Principal of College all the students were present for the exam.”
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told Herald, “There were no special arrangements for my movement. In Goa I move normally.”
