MAYEM: The meet on Tuesday to discuss the no-confidence motion against the chairperson and deputy chairperson of Sanquelim Municipal Council (SMC) has been postponed to August 2, prompting objections from six councillors moving the no-trust motion.
It may be recalled that six councillors, Riyaz Khan, Vibha Desai, Rashmi Desai, Kunda Madkar, Dharmesh Saglani and Damodar Ghadi, had tabled a no-confidence motion against SMC chairperson Narayan Relekar and deputy chairperson Dayanand Boryekar on July 2.
The meeting was fixed on July 30 to approve the motion.
However, Additional Director of Urban Development Satish Desai issued letters to all the councillors stating that the meeting has been postponed to August 2.
“It was a pre-planned move of the State government to discourage them from passing this motion. “The notices were served to us on July 29 evening. However, we came to know about it in SMC office on Tuesday. All the councillors of the ruling and opposition groups were present for the meeting, but it did not take place,” said former SMC chairperson Riyaz Khan.
Meanwhile, Relekar and Boryekar said the meeting was postponed following a notice from the State government and claimed that their group was united.
