MARGAO: Five councilors of Cuncolim municipality served a no-confidence motion notice against Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas.
Vice Chairperson Mario Morais, Councillors Sashank Desai, Udesh Gaonkar, Prenzy Coutinho and Succorina Fernandes had signed the no confidence motion notice.
These five councillors alleged that the chairperson’s husband is interfering in Council business and that Lavita has failed to pursue development work in last fifteen months, besides she also failed to repair the garbage treatment plant.
It may recall that before the Assembly elections seven councilors had move a no-confidence motion against Mascarenhas. But dramatically, Vice Chairperson Mario Moeais and councilor Sashank Dessai, who were signatories to the motion, voted against the same saying they were forced by the BJP to sign on the no-trust motion notice.
Of the twelve councilors, seven are loyalists of former minister Joaquim Alemao, while five are BJP supporters.
