MARGAO: Alleging that the BJP government had destroyed Goa’s identity over the last 10 years, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Tuesday said that the government’s obsession for event management and promoting commercial events has affected the State’s local art, culture and traditions.

Alemao alleged that the authorities harass local organisers of traditional events but give full liberty to foreigners and others to hold rave parties.

“I strongly demand that the Chief Minister immediately issue a relaxation on the noise rules to all the local traditional, cultural and social events organised during festivals in Goa,” said the LoP.

He said it is most unfortunate that events for foreigners are welcomed with a red carpet in Goa, but traditional Christmas and New Year dances are facing restrictions from the government.

“I hope better sense will prevail and the government will stop harassing locals,” said the LoP, demanding that the government issues a notification for sound relaxation immediately so that local organisers get enough time to make preparations and inform their guests well in advance. “Goa has already lost its original identity,” added Alemao.
